Our Story

Welcome to Wynyard Therapy & Life Coaching Services –

Your Trusted Local Partner for Mental Health Support

"Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge. Leading by example means showing vulnerability, compassion, and resilience, which inspires others to do the same."
— Simon Sinek

Our founder

At Wynyard Therapy & Life Coaching Services, we take immense pride in being a locally-owned and operated business, deeply embedded in the Wynyard, Co. Durham community. Our story began in April 2020 when Ruth, our dynamic Clinical Director, turned adversity into opportunity after being made redundant during the pandemic. With over 25 years of prominent experience in the industry, Ruth’s entrepreneurial spirit, problem-solving abilities, and unwavering resilience enabled her to establish a trusted and compassionate therapy and coaching service for her local community.

Ruth’s career is both impressive and diverse. She has held senior management roles in social care, working with both victims and perpetrators of abuse, as well as teaching counselling and social care. Her expertise spans a range of sectors, and she has worked in a troubleshooting capacity throughout her career, successfully turning around services, creating solutions, and improving care systems. Her extensive background in social care, coupled with her entrepreneurial drive, made her uniquely positioned to overcome the challenges brought by the pandemic and build a service that has become the go-to resource for therapy and coaching services in the region.

Our services

Today, our practice is widely recognised as a leader in mental health support for both individuals and businesses in Wynyard and the surrounding areas. From one-to-one therapy to specialised services tailored for local companies, we cater to the needs of our community with care and attention.

One of our key areas of expertise is providing critical incident debriefing and bespoke Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), specifically designed for small to medium-sized local businesses. We understand the unique pressures these businesses face, and our EAPs are crafted to support their employees' mental and emotional well-being through tailored workshops, counselling, and ongoing support. Whether it is helping staff navigate a traumatic event or providing day-to-day mental health resources, we are here to help businesses build a healthy, resilient workforce. We know that when local businesses thrive, the whole community benefits.

Our team

Under Ruth’s expert leadership, our team has grown into a multidisciplinary group of professionals, all dedicated to supporting the local community. Each member of our team has been personally vetted by Ruth, who ensures that their qualifications, experience, and personal attributes meet the high standards of care we pride ourselves on. Ruth’s guiding rule is simple:  “Would I trust them with my own care?” This ensures that every therapist and coach on our team is not only highly qualified but also someone who embodies the compassion, approachability and empathy we strive to provide for our clients.

Our team brings a diverse range of skills, allowing us to address a wide variety of issues that clients may bring to therapy. Whether working face-to-face  or providing online support, our professionals are committed to offering high-quality, tailored care to every individual.

Our reputation

Our reputation has grown alongside our provision, and Wynyard Therapy & Life Coaching Services is proud to collaborate with local businesses, educational institutions, and health and social care providers to promote mental well-being across the Northeast. Whether you’re looking for personal therapy or seeking professional support for your employees, we are here to provide trusted, local solutions.

With Ruth at the helm, we remain committed to delivering personalised, high-quality care to individuals and businesses alike. Let Wynyard Therapy & Life Coaching be your trusted local partner for mental well-being.
